MAJOR gasworks will bring two months of disruption to Cambridge starting from July.\u00a0The work is part of an essential project to replace ageing gas mains with more durable pipes.\u00a0Cadent engineers will be replacing gas mains along Histon Road.<\/p>\n
The work is due to start on Tuesday, July 3 and is scheduled for completion by the end of\u00a0August 2018.<\/p>\n
There will be a lane closure from Monday, July 23, for 10 days at the junctions of Histon Road,\u00a0Huntingdon Road and Victoria Road.\u00a0However, Histon Road will remain open throughout the project.<\/p>\n
To ease congestion the lane closure has been scheduled for the school summer holiday period when\u00a0roads are generally quieter. Engineers will also insert the new pipes into the old mains wherever possible\u00a0which will reduce the need for large scale excavations in the road.\u00a0Local shops and businesses will remain open as usual.<\/p>\n
Authorising engineer Dilbir Chana said:\u00a0\u201cWe’ve planned the work very carefully in close\u00a0discussion with the local authorities to ensure it’s delivered with as little disruption as possible.<\/p>\n
“The gas mains we’re replacing have been providing years of safe and reliable service but now they’re getting old and the time has come to replace them.”<\/p>\n
Work also involves the replacement of gas service pipes to some properties in the area.\u00a0Cadent will liaise with these properties to arrange for the work to be done. The work will require a temporary disconnection of the gas supply to each property involved to enable the new pipe to be installed.<\/p>\n
